On Wednesday 19 October 2022, the ECOWAS Commission officially handed over a forensic laboratory to the Gambian authorities according to the announcement of an ECOWAS communication memo. This was within the framework of strengthening the fight against cybercrime.

The laboratory donation would serve to provide more capacity to the Gambian police to effectively combat cybercrime in the country and better cooperate with other member states in terms of managing cybercrime problems and strengthening digital investigations.

The forensic lab is equipped with various types of digital forensic equipment including generic hardware, software, and licenses. Indeed, well before the installation of this equipment, capacity building was provided to Gambian police officers to develop and improve their skills in handling digital evidence in accordance with well-established best practices and appropriate procedures.
