In a statement released on Thursday, October 3, 2022, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced that it had approved the disbursement of a new loan instalment of 140 million $ in favor of Benin.

The IMF's disbursement to Benin is part of the extended credit facility (MEDC) /extended credit facility (FEC) agreement concluded between Bé Nin and the Fonds in July 2022. It will cover cumulative disbursements of approximately $280 million over the first six months of the agreement, which lasts 42 months. For example, the IMF highlighted the progress made in establishing a social register to identify the poor and on the progress made in strengthening the framework for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

According to the statement, the Fund stressed that “Benin's economic and financial program under the MEDC and the FEC has started under very good auspices. All quantitative performance criteria by the end of June 2022 have been largely met, and significant progress has been made in implementing structural reforms.”
