On Monday, November 28, 2022, three countries announced their support for calls for the creation of a global anti-corruption court. They believe that this would help them fight against “kleptocrats” at the head of governments.

The foreign ministers of the Netherlands, Canada, and Ecuador have supported a campaign for an anti-corruption tribunal, which, for its supporters, would function similarly to the International Criminal Court (ICC). According to a tweet by Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra after a meeting in The Hague, a Dutch city home to a multitude of global courts, “such a court will provide the international community with an additional tool to enforce existing anti-corruption laws.”

According to UN figures, some two trillion dollars in global procurement spending are lost every year due to corruption.
