Mascad will switch to the FATF list of countries at risk, if nothing changes by September. This is the statement of the Committee for the Safeguarding of Integrity (CSI), an independent body of the anti-corruption system in Madagascar.

Since 2018, Madagascar has been under increased scrutiny by FATF evaluators. The country is indeed at the gates of this famous "grey list". A list of states whose jurisdictions are considered risky for the international financial system. This registration would earn the Big Island heavy financial penalties, but also constraints that will impact the Malagasy, regardless of their social level.

Everything is "still playable", says the CSI. Only, we must act quickly. Operationalize the agency for the recovery of illicit assets, revise the anti-money laundering law, set up inter-ministerial action groups. "Mauritius has been placed on the grey list; they took two long years to get out of it," recalls, as a warning, the CSI.
