This was revealed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousséni Sanou, in an interview this week.
Mali was unable to honor its commitments vis-à-vis its partners for the payment of its debts. Because of ECOWAS and UEMOA sanctions, Mali owes more than 200 billion FCFA in unpaid bills to its partners. These ECOWAS and UEMOA sanctions no longer allow Mali to find liquidity to repay because there is no longer a transaction between Mali and the other countries of the sub-region. According to the Minister, the installments to be paid not honored with the various creditors will reach nearly 30 billion FCFA. “They will be 175 billion FCFA for investors, i.e. a total of 205 billion FCFA”.
