The Songo-Matambo Transmission Line Project aims to increase the reliability and security of Mozambique's electricity supply and to promote the regional integration of the power grid and electricity trade. According to the head of the Banque africaine de développement Mozambique country office, César Mba Abogo, “the project is part of a larger effort to modernize the network to allow the installation and the evacuation of additional electricity generation capacities, and thus contribute to the affirmation of Mozambique as an emerging energy hub in the region”. For the latter, the vision of this project is to improve the quality of supply in the central and northern regions, where most of the population of Mozambique is located, and will thus contribute to the development of the country.

Also, this same project is intended to facilitate the implementation of priority regional interconnections such as Mozambique-Malawi and Mozambique-Zambia.
