The global pandemic does not seem to have impacted cotton production in Côte d'Ivoire. The Professional Association of Cotton Companies of Côte d'Ivoire (Aprocot-Ci) announced yesterday that cotton production is expected to reach a record 520,000 tons in 2020-2021, 6% more than in 2019/20.

An increase following good weather conditions and a 9% increase in sown areas to 444,760 hectares. The growers were encouraged by the high price to the producer, renewed at FCFA 300 per kilo.

On the other hand, Covid-19 and the containment measures taken to contain it, destroyed the world demand for cotton which put pressure on the cash flow of cotton companies by slowing down exports. Some companies still have unsold volumes from the 2019/20 campaign.
