On November 2, 2022, Côte d'Ivoire Terminal effectively started commercial activities at the new container terminal in the port of Abidjan. The launch of activities at the second terminal comes after the test stops successfully carried out in mid-October 2022.

The second terminal project was completed thanks to a global investment of 596 billion FCFA, 334 of which were dedicated to earthworks at the expense of Port d& Arsquo; Abidjan and 262 billion CFA francs devoted to superstructures. This new terminal covers an area of 37.5 hectares and has a 1,100 m dock with a draft of 16 m and modern equipment. This equipment makes it possible to process 1.5 million EPV containers annually.

Its commissioning will also, on the one hand, increase exchanges between Côte d'Ivoire and the sub-region and strengthen the Côte d'Ivoire/Burkina Faso/ corridor Mali. According to Koen De Backker, CEO of Côte d'Ivoire Terminal, “the official launch of the activities of Côte d'Ivoire Terminal marks a new stage. For two years, we worked to build this new container terminal in order to provide the Port of Abidjan with an infrastructure that meets international standards, capable of supporting traffic growth while preserving the environment.”

In reality, this infrastructure introduces several innovations, namely automated booth management and an online appointment booking system. This is to facilitate the delivery and collection of containers in a timely and safe manner.
