On the evening of Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, smiled with satisfaction at the end of the two days of fundraising.

Among the poorest in Africa, the Sahelian country aimed at 29.6 billion euros for the new five-year development plan 2022 - 2026. It has obtained the substantial amount of 45 billion euros in commitments, one and a half times its annual GDP. In addition, another funding of 30% from the State budget is planned.

In reality, institutional donors will provide $22.7 billion in the form of concessional loans (at reduced rates), including 2.7 billion for the European Union, 4.2 billion for the World Bank and 750 million for France. For its part, the private sector will contribute 8.3 billion euros, including 500 million dollars for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a subsidiary of the World Bank Group.

According to Sergio Pimenta, Vice President for Africa, “it's a big envelope; until now, we had a portfolio of a few million.”
