The management of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou (PAC) in Benin has posted on its Facebook page that the Chinese company, China Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd. (CHEC), has just been appointed following a call for tenders, to carry out the construction work of Terminal 5 of the PAC.

The port authority in charge of the operation and management of the platform signed, last Thursday, with the company CHEC, the contract for the construction of Terminal 5 of the PAC. This infrastructure includes the creation of 22 ha of new land in the sea to the east of the current crossing, the creation of two berths of 550 metres in total and the widening of the south dike by 359 metres to protect the port infrastructure from the sea. The only port in Benin, the Autonomous Port of Cotonou is the lung of Benin's economy with more than 90% of trade with the outside world, more than 60% of GDP and contributes up to 80% to the mobilization of customs revenues and more than 45% of the country's tax revenues. The management delegation contract signed on 8 January 2018 is structured around three strategic axes: the modernisation of facilities and equipment, the repositioning and the transfer of skills for the benefit of local staff.
