New financial support Japanese comes to consolidate a structuring project on the Moroccan coast, illustrating bilateral cooperation that is part of a sustainable vision of development and strategic partnership between Morocco and Japan. This Dynamic reached a new stage on Tuesday, December 23 in Rabat, with the signing of an Exchange of Notes concerning an additional government donation Japanese in favor of the project to develop the fishing port of Nouvelle generation of Souiria K'dima, in the province of Safi.

The ceremony took place held in the presence of Mr ONISHI Yohei, Japanese Deputy Parliamentary Minister Department of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State in charge of marine fishing. On this occasion, both parties formalized financing an additional amount of approximately 30.4 million Dirhams, completing the envelope Initial grant for the modernization of the fishing village of Souiria K'dima.

According to the ministry Japanese Department of Foreign Affairs, this donation is part of the Non-refundable financial cooperation from Japan and brings the total amount of financing at 2.505 billion yen, or nearly 157 million dirhams. The aim is to ensure the complete completion of the project in accordance with standards defined from its launch, while guaranteeing implementation sustainable and adapted to economic developments in the Moroccan fishing sector.

The project aims to transform Souiria K'dima into a new generation fishing port, capable to play a role as a local economic hub. Built in 1998 thanks to a first Japanese aid, the port saw its environment evolve with the increase landings, growth in the number of boats and diversification marketing channels. This mutation has made it essential to modernization of infrastructures in order to improve working conditions and to strengthen the health safety of seafood products.

In his communication Officially, the Japanese side emphasizes that this cooperation will allow to increase the capacity of boats, to optimize the treatment of fresh fish and to provide the port with multifunctional functions, including touristy. The integrated approach adopted aims to boost the local economy while strengthening Morocco's competitiveness in a strategic sector.

This commitment is part of in line with the agreements signed in Safi in January 2025 and in Agadir in February 2025, involving initial financing of 2.003 billion yen, approximately 133 million Dirhams. The additional support decided in Rabat responds as well as to the technical adjustments necessary to ensure the realization complete with all components of the project.

Beyond its dimension sectoral, this cooperation illustrates the depth of relationships Moroccan-Japanese women, called to celebrate their 70th anniversary in 2026. These have evolved from technical assistance punctual towards a structured strategic partnership, reinforced by the signature in May 2024 of a memorandum of cooperation covering the economy, security and human exchanges.
