As part of the festivities commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the national independence of Mauritania, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to launch the construction of an inland fishing and fish farming center in the wilayas of Assaba, Hodh Echarghi and Brakna. It was Saturday, November 26, 2022 when the Minister of Fisheries and the Maritime Economy, Mohamed Ould Abidine Ould Maayif, supervised the activities with the Wali of Assaba, Abderrahmane Ould El Hacen.

The construction of this center aims to develop all hydraulic areas for inland fisheries purposes and to set up fish farming projects with the aim of exploiting fishing potential so that they play a strategic role, according to the minister in his speech on the occasion.

The objectives of this activity are also part of the program of the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, implemented by the Government of Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal with a view to fixing populations in their territories and combating poverty, food insecurity and undernourishment.
