The Resident Representative of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), Aissa Kabo Sidikou, stressed the need for member states to synergize their efforts in order to be at the rendezvous of competitiveness and excellence. "The stakes are high. At a time when our countries and our Community area are facing challenges related to the regional, continental and global agenda, it is our duty to put our efforts in synergy in order to be at the rendezvous of competitiveness and excellence to play our part in the concert of nations", said Ms. Sidikou. She was speaking on Monday at the start of the 6th annual review of WAEMU reforms, policies, programmes and Community projects in Senegal, which are being held in Dakar until 27 November.

This review of the WAEMU portfolio in the countries was initiated in 2013 by the Conference of Heads of State and Government, through an additional act, with a view to "giving a stronger political impetus to the construction of the community space", she recalled. According to her, this exercise makes it possible "to identify and anticipate factors that may constitute a bottleneck or mitigate the effectiveness of community reforms and projects". According to him, five reviews have been organised by the Commission since 2014."These reviews, which have aroused enthusiasm and strong support from the Member States, have made it possible to boost the national system for monitoring the implementation of Community texts, both in terms of their transition and their effective implementation," she said. In addition, she suggested that "in the dynamic of perpetuating the achievements and maintaining the level of commitment of the member States, the WAEMU Commission intends to continue the exercise, in a participatory approach". "Thus, like previous editions, the 2020 annual review was preceded by working sessions, workshops and various interactions between the office of the WAEMU representative in Senegal and the Senegalese side, to boost the transposition and application of texts in difficulty, and to accelerate the implementation of projects and programmes that are overdue," said Aissa Kabo Sidikou. According to her, all these efforts have made it possible to "identify ways so that appropriate solutions can be provided". During this 2020 review, "it will be a question of exchanging on the Community acts adopted by mutual agreement with the stakeholders, through a weighting grid in order to engage the performance achieved by Senegal in the implementation of reforms, Community policies, programmes and projects''. The memorandum resulting from this work will be validated by the Minister of Finance and Budget and by the President of the Commission, in the presence of members of the government, before its submission to the President of the Republic Macky Sall, explained the WAEMU resident representative.
