The Lagos State government planned to achieve 40% self-sufficiency in food production by 2025, according to a statement by the special advisor of the governor for agriculture.

Farmers in the north are facing huge, relentless security challenges. Given its challenges, Fashola declares on the sidelines of the 2023 Budget Advisory Forum for the Lagos Division that the decision to achieve 40% self-sufficiency by 2025 for Lagos State was appropriate. It thus underlines the need to reduce its dependence on other States to meet its food needs.

According to him, “The main thing about this year's agricultural roadmap is that by 2025, 40% of our consumption comes from the state. In other words, we have a reduction in our dependence on the northern part or other parts of the country, because food security in Lagos State is of paramount importance to us.

However, he estimates that the state government had covered more than 70% of his fiscal activity and expressed confidence that by the end of the year, it would reach nearly 95% of its goal.
