On July 15, 2022 in Abidjan, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved the grant of 3.5 million dollars to The Gambia to support the Programme of transformation of the rice value chain.

To complement the $7 million granted in December 2018 at the launch of this project, the African Development Fund's Transition Support Facility and the window Concessional from the African Development Bank Group have just recently donated 3.5 million to the Gambia to ensure the smooth running of the program. This additional funding will allow for the purchase and distribution, using digital technology, of subsidized inputs to farmers as well as to vulnerable populations such as women and children. It will also support policy reforms to increase food production. It should be noted that this additional funding comes to alleviate the Gambia, a country highly dependent on imports and foodstuffs, in a context where the price of fertilizers on the world market has increased by more than 100% since the beginning of the year.
