The latest publication of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (Ansd) "Harmonized Index of Industrial Production June 2022” informs that in June 2022, there was a deterioration of 8.5% in industrial production excluding cotton ginning compared to that of the year 2021.

At the basis of this decline, the document highlights the underperformance noted in production in the extractive (-31.1%) and manufacturing (-2.9%) industries to a lesser extent. On the other hand, the production of environmental industries (+7.3%) and that of electricity, gas and water (+6.4%) improved over the period under review compared with the corresponding period of the year 2021.

According to ANSD, industrial production fell during the first half of 2022 by 1.6%, compared to the corresponding period of 2021 this year. Thus, in connection with the cotton production cycle, the cotton ginning activity was marked by a cessation of production in June 2022.
