The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC Ltd.), said that the import of petroleum products into the country will be stopped by mid-2023.

Mele Kyari, managing director of NNPC Ltd said that the combined production of the Nigerian refineries being renovated and the Dangote refinery would be sufficient to stop the import. According to him, the refinery has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, with a different technology. Kyari added: “Which means it can crack crude so as to have more gasoline than a typical refinery; that means the refinery has the capacity to produce up to 50 million liters of PMS. So the combination of that and our own ability to bring our refinery back will completely eliminate all imports of petroleum products into this country.” The managing director of the NNPC Ltd group spoke at the State House ministerial briefing organized by the presidential communications team.
