Benin and Niger recently signed a protocol terminating the concession contract awarded to the French group Bolloré for the modernization and operation of the railroad that will connect Cotonou to Niamey (740 km), passing through the cities of Parakou and Dosso.

The contract between Cotonou and Niamey has been officially terminated after legal proceedings were initiated before the Beninese courts and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce. The rail network co-managed by the two neighboring countries has been worn out over time, forcing the interruption of traffic for several years. Projects initiated for its rehabilitation and extension have also stalled.
