The Economic Union of West African States (UEMOA) has experienced the 2nd highest growth in FDI in Africa in the last five years
.UEMOA showed 100% growth in FDI flows, placing it in 2nd place in the ranking after SADC. According to the UNCTAD report, FDI flows to the zone doubled, reaching $5.2 billion in 2022, compared to $2.7 billion in 2018
.During this period, FDI to Senegal ($9 billion) has been dynamic, despite the global economic crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. These investments were driven mainly by extractive activities (mining, oil and gas). Côte d'Ivoire, for its part, displayed economic dynamism and socio-political stability during this period, which enabled it to attract foreign investments worth $5.2 billion, mainly in the natural resources, agriculture and services sectors
.Guinea-Bissau remains, however, the EU country with the fewest FDI inflows ($156 million in five years), despite the peak of flows of $72 million recorded in 2019.
In addition, the report indicates that, with FDI inflows of $10 billion, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is in first position with growth of 300%. FDI flows to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) increased by 14% to $22 billion, while those to the East African Community (EAC) increased by 9%, to $3.8 billion
