The Guinean Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo announced on Monday, November 28, 2022, that the Guinean government has invested more than 200 million dollars. This investment is being made with the aim of providing the country with 4,400 kilometers of fiber optics.

The funding provided by the Guinean government will significantly reduce the cost of telephony and internet services for users according to Ousmane Gaoual Diallo. Thus, for him, the cost of monthly consumption of telephone and internet services could be reduced to 500,000 Guinean francs (57 dollars) against more than 1.5 million GNF (171 dollars) today.

Diallo believes that the government intends to increase the number of optical cables in the country from one to three in the coming months. The Ministry of Posts, Telecoms and the Digital Economy does not have the resources necessary to finance the telecom sector in Guinea alone with the annual budget of 116 billion GNF (13 million dollars). Thus, the Guinean Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy stressed the need to encourage foreign investors with the establishment of a favorable institutional framework and business climate, recognizing that despite the arrival of 4G in Guinea, the costs are still high for the population.
