The start of the transformation zone project Agropole Centre's agro-industrial plant was officially donated on the 16th last December in Senegal. In fact, the government is stepping up its efforts in agri-food processing to create more value and stimulate production, as part of its food sovereignty policy.

With a total cost of 107.4 billion FCFA (approximately USD 191.7 million), the agro-industrial processing zone project is intended to strengthen the local transformation of agricultural products. It is funded by the State with the support of several technical and financial partners, including the African Bank of development (BAD), the Islamic Bank of development (BID) and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel).

The transformation zone project Agropole Centre's agro-industrial plant was officially launched on Tuesday 16 December 2025 in Kaolack, during a CRD.

According to the authorities, the Agropole Centre should allow the implementation of 37 structuring projects in judged sectors strategic, in particular peanuts, dry cereals (millet, maize, sorghum), sesame and salt in the regions of Kaolack, Kaffrine, Fatick and Diourbel. Les interventions will mainly focus on the establishment of units industrial and processing platforms. The initiative aims to significant increase in the rate of industrial transformation in the region, with an expected increase of 6 to 30% for targeted cereals, 15 to 50% for peanuts and 10 to 30% for salt.

The Agropole Centre is not a project of isolated agro-industrial processing. It is a regional component the National Program for the Development of Agropolies in Senegal (PNDAS), intended to structure and modernize agro-industry at the national level. Ce Program provides for the development of four other agropoles in the South (Ziguinchor, Kolda, Sédhiou), to the West (Thiès), to the North (Saint-Louis, Louga, Matam) and to the East (Tambacounda, Kedougou) of the country.
