Following an analysis of the latest report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Therno Alassane Sall and his comrades in the Economic Cell of the Republic of Values believe that "Senegal is heading straight for an economic catastrophe". Therno Alassane Sall and his party comrades are sounding the alarm about Senegal's economic situation. According to their analysis of the IMF report published on 26th January the signals are in the red for the Senegalese economy.
"Contrary to the assertions, which would be reassuring, distilled in abundance and insidiously by the government, Senegal is heading straight for an economic catastrophe by the end of macky Sall's second and last term in 2024," say the friends of Thierno Alassane Sall (TAS) giving as a reference the link to the full report of the 86-page IMF (downloadable from the IMF website: https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/CR/Issues/2021/01 /19/Senegal-Second-ReviewUnder-the-Policy-Coordination-Instrument-and-Request-for-Modification-50026), have kicked in touch any alibi relating to the occurrence of Covid-19.
According to this political movement, the occurrence of Covid-19 "has proved to be a boon for Macky Sall and his Government to break the locks of debt". "Long before the outbreak of Covid-19, the country's economic situation was not very good, or even close to bankruptcy. Indeed, the total amount of Senegal's nominal public debt amounted to 9,114 billion CFA francs in December 2019, or 63% of GDP. This very high level of indebtedness had earned Senegal, at the beginning of 2020, a warning from the IMF which urged the government not to contract an additional debt of more than 449 billion FCFA by the end of the year (2020)", did they say in a press release.
The VR unit points the finger at "non-priority and productive investments such as the regional express train (TER), the construction of a new stadium to host the Youth Olympic Games, the erection of Diamniadio as an administrative hub and business center with several expensive infrastructures (International Conference Center, Dakar Arena, etc.) ".
