Essential health services in Benin: The World Bank approves 116.4 billion CFA francs for 9 million people

World Bank is helping Benin improve the quality of and access to primary health care services, and strengthen its capacity to respond to public health emergencies. For example, $187 million in funding from the International Development Association (IDA) has been approved for the benefit of  more than 9 million people.

 

Benin's health system strengthening programme will support improved quality of and access to primary health care services with a focus on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and nutrition health services. The performance-based project will help improve Benin's capacity to provide better disease surveillance, prepare for a rapid and effective response to public health emergencies. The project will also provide essential health services to nearly 9 million people and basic nutrition services to more than 4 million children. More than 2.8 million children will also benefit from immunization and more than 2 million assisted deliveries will be carried out by skilled health personnel.
