On 24 June 2016, the Council of Ministers of the West African Monetary Union WAEMU adopted the Draft Uniform Law on the repression of counterfeiting and other attacks on monetary signs throughout the territory of the States of the Union. The application of this provision leads speculators to mount a cabal against the Judicial Investigation Brigade (BIJ) against a backdrop of lies and manipulation. Speculators on small banknotes have invaded social networks to make false statements against the Judicial Investigation Brigade of the National Police in order to manipulate national opinion. In accordance with the article of Law No. 2018-038 of 27 June 2018 on the uniform law on the repression of counterfeiting and other attacks on monetary signs throughout the territory of the States of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU), "the collection of a commission in return for the delivery of monetary signs issued by the BCEAO against other monetary signs of its issuance, is punishable by imprisonment from one (01) year to three (03) years and a fine of one million (1,000) FCFA to three million (3,000,000) FCFA". Proof that contrary to the false information conveyed on social networks, the BIJ judicial police investigation unit under the leadership of its commander, Divisional Commissioner Hamadoun Bilal Traoré is only applying the law.
