5G is expected to be rolled out from August 24 in Nigeria by Mafab Nigeria Communications Limited.

The company has begun the process of applying to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for a Unified Access Service License (UASL), which is expected to cost 374.6 million naira (US$902,000). Mafab Communication is, along with MTN, one of the two winners in the December 2021 telecom spectrum auction for 5G. The company walked away with 100 MHz in the 3.5 GHz band for $273.6 million. At the time, it only had an international data access license obtained in July 2020. This does not allow it to provide telecommunications services in Nigeria. It should be noted that in the same period MTN could launch ultra-broadband.
