The institution is concerned about the decrease in the share of the agricultural sector in the gross domestic product (GDP) of most African economies.
The World Bank (WB) has highlighted five priority areas vital for the development of agriculture in CAR and other African countries to include the need to build an institutional framework, increase access to finance, and provide ACC to markets, to guarantee land rights and ownership, and to invest in agricultural inputs and equipment. This information is included in the multilateral institution's latest economic update report on the Central African Republic (CAR) entitled “Addressing increasing risks: addressing macro-fiscal challenges and unlocking the potential of the agricultural sector.”
According to the report, poor road conditions are seriously hampering farmers' access to markets, indicating that improving the quality of roads and transport is vital for the movement of agricultural products from rural farms. According to the information in the report, access to basic capital for agricultural activities remained a major bottleneck. According to the World Bank, “the rise in food and fuel prices, the disruption of supply chains, the political turmoil following the adoption of the cryptocurrency law, and the impact of the war in Ukraine are slowing economic growth in the CAR, with downside risks.”
