These perspectives stand out of a recent report by the monetary institution common to the six member countries.
According to projections by The BEAC, foreign exchange reserves should reach 6,566 billion FCFA in 2026, a level equivalent to coverage of 4.15 months of imports. Elles would then increase to 6,983 billion FCFA in 2027, or 4.16 months of imports, before exceeding the threshold of 7 000 billion CFA francs in 2028, corresponding to approximately $12.5 billion and a coverage of 4.19 months.
At the end of 2025, the reserves of the CEMAC zone stand at 6,377 billion CFA francs, in down from 7,295 billion registered a year earlier. This contraction resulted in a decrease in the coverage capacity of imports, limited to 4.25 months, against 4.87 months in 2024.
Despite this context, the BEAC is confident about to the future evolution of external indicators. “As a result, the rate of Foreign currency coverage is expected to evolve on an upward trend to reach an annual average of around 72.4% over the period 2026-2028, after 67.0% in 2025”, underlines the institution. These forecasts reflect the hope of a gradual rebalancing of the external accounts of subregion
