During a working meeting on Thursday 20 March in Washington (USA), the World Bank issued recommendations to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to ensure the success of its digital transformation adopted in 2019, of which the international institution is a financial partner on certain projects.

The Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital, Augustin Kibassa Maliba, spoke with a World Bank delegation led by Isabelle Neto, Digital Development Manager for East Africa and Africa Austral. The exchange focused on the implementation of ongoing digital projects, in particular the IDEA program. This program aims to modernize digital infrastructures, improve access to the Internet and strengthen public services. It is crucial to promote digital inclusion, the digitization of administration and the creation of jobs.

The World Bank recommended the finalization of the recruitment of key teams (project coordinator, technical specialists, etc.); the effective establishment of the steering committee and governance bodies; the rapid approval of essential regulatory texts; the immediate launch of the first visible activities, in particular in terms of equipment and training. With the IDEA program and other ongoing initiatives, the DRC aims to make digital technology a driver of economic and social development
