The West African Coastal Zone Resilience Investment Project (WACA ResIP), supported by the World Bank, plans to finance ten scientific research projects on the marine and coastal environment in Togo.

The Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources launched through the WACA ResIP project , un appel à propositions of research on the marine and coastal environment of Togo. The call is open until April 21, 2025. This initiative is part of the vision to fund 10 research projects on marine and coastal ecosystems in Togo. The priority themes are: Coastal systems and marine and coastal biodiversity; Blue economy, law and coastal development; Coastal oceanography, marine geology and biogeochemistry; Sustainable management of lagoon and marine fishery resources; Marine safety, marine environment, hazards and vulnerability. Each selected project will receive funding over a period of 10 months, with the explicit objective of producing scientific articles published in indexed journals by September 2026. This boost to local research is part of the WACA project's broader desire to build governance based on data, while involving academia in responses to environmental challenges

In addition, it integrates young Togolese researchers into the dynamics of climate resilience and sustainable coastal development.
