The resumption of activities aimed at restoring an autonomous financial circuit in a city where banks and other microfinance institutions have been closed since January 2025. However, several challenges have been identified since the reopening. Economic experts in the region point to the lack of a SWIFT code as a first obstacle. Another major difficulty is the lack of public trust. Although the reopening of CADECO in Goma was initially welcomed, the population expressed doubts about its reliability. According to an economic expert, “the population is wary and remains very cautious.”
