Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil producer, has signed a strategic partnership with BYD, the largest Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles. This partnership is part of the economic strategy of the Saudi authorities

Two sector leaders are joining forces to support the development of carbon-free mobility. The deal was sealed on Monday, April 21 . According to a press release published two days before the opening of the Shanghai Motor Show, “Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC), a subsidiary of the Saudi group, intends to develop with its Chinese partner “innovative technologies that increase efficiency and environmental performance”. For Ali A. Al-Meshari, vice president responsible for the supervision and technological coordination of the oil group, Aramco is “exploring numerous ways to optimize transport efficiency, from low-CO2 fuels to advanced engine concepts.” Aramco's initiative is a perfect response to the concerns of Saudi authorities who want to diversify an economy that is still heavily dependent on oil exports. The installation of 5,000 electric charging stations is thus planned throughout the kingdom by 2030.
