Un rapport du Fonds mondial pour la nature (WWF) publié le mercredi 30 avril 2025 révèle que 48% d' entre les Sub-Saharan African banks are not committed to implementing sustainable financial practices.

The World Wildlife Fund report mentions that South African and Kenyan banks are the most successful in the field of sustainable finance, thanks to favorable regulations that allow them to offer green financial products. According to the information, around 72% of banks in Sub-Saharan Africa incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into their development strategies, but almost half of them (48%) do not commit to implementing sustainable financial practices. This report assesses the integration of ESG criteria into growth strategies, the commitments to implement sustainable financial practices, and the degree of effective application of these commitments within 25 banks operating in eight countries. These include Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Kenya, Kenya,, Namibia, Namibia, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Zambia. The report also reveals that the eight countries studied are not in the same boat.
