President George Weah has suspended import duties on agricultural products and materials with immediate effect with the aim of stimulating agriculture in Liberia.

A decree was issued on January 23, 2023 stipulating that exempt agricultural products are live cattle for breeding, live sheep and goats for breeding, and live fish for breeding. Therefore, there are all types of agricultural seeds and plant material, such as cereals, legumes, oil seeds, fodder, vegetables and other crops, and then rice for seeding under Chapter 10 and the Harmonized Coding System.

Under Chapter 12 of the Harmonized Coding System, all types of agricultural seeds intended for seeding under the Harmonized Coding System, ingredients (raw and processed) used in the preparation of animal feeds, fish and poultry, commercially prepared or whole foods for farm animals, fish and poultry- Foods are also part of it. Noted that the suspension is temporary but no lifting date has been mentioned.
