For a case of money laundering and tax evasion, the Paris Court of Appeal convicted the former Hauts-de-Seine officials Patrick and Isabelle Balkany on January 9, 2023. They were respectively sentenced to four and a half years and three and a half years in prison, 100,000 euros in fines and 10 years of ineligibility for laundering tax fraud.

After a third trial devoted solely to the length of sentences, the court ordered total confusion between these sanctions and the three-year prison sentence imposed in the tax evasion aspect of the Balkany case. In addition, Patrick Balkany was convicted of illegal vesting of interest. Indeed, the court considered that he had benefited from “personal benefits” in kind in the context of a large real estate contract in the city of Levallois-Perret. Noted that he was mayor of this city from 1983 to 1995 and then from 2001 to 2020.
