The Agricultural Bank of Niger (BAGRI) was created in 2011. It has aroused a lot of hope among farmers whose production activities it is supposed to finance. However, to access bank credits, farmers' organizations should first deposit money with BAGRI. After the discovery by an inspection mission ordered by the President of the Republic Bazoum Mohamed of the embezzlement of approximately 5 billion FCFA, the banking institution is threatened with closure. A financial scandal that risks annihilating peasants.

In reality, farmers' organizations relied heavily on the Agricultural Bank to finance their projects. According to DW Almansour Mohamed, Secretary General of Pastoral Associations in Niger, “there are producers themselves who invest their money in search of credits. There are also partners who contribute, there is even the State. So it's an Agricultural Development Bank. And what has just happened or what has been said in relation to embezzlement is a matter that may actually derail the initiative that was the basis for the creation of this Agricultural Bank.”
