Global SWF published its annual report on Sunday, ^January 1, 2023. In this document, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) was named “2022 Fund of the Year” for its leadership among sovereign investors and public, its impact on the development of the province and its significant investment activity over the past twelve months.

In a press release, the firm Global SWF emphasized that CDPQ was “unique” because of its management of public capital and pension contributions as well as its “dual mandate” of achieving optimal financial returns and contributing to development & economic status of the province. Note that the firm Global SWF is a global reference that studies the activities of some 400 investors and public pension funds.

The same press release mentions that “CDPQ has become one of the largest, most active, and most sophisticated global investors in the world. Over the past ten years, the fund has always been among the top 10 investors and knows how to identify opportunities to monetize assets nationally and internationally.” According to data compiled by Global SWF, the CDPQ invested approximately $10 billion in private markets in 2022 alone, in addition to employing more than 1,450 people, 89% of whom are based in Canada and 162 abroad.
