Ghana announced on February 12, 2026 a series of urgent reforms in the cocoa sector, including a reduction in cocoa prices production, in order to stabilize its sector in crisis.

Ghana is the world's second largest cocoa producer behind Ivory Coast. Among the measures announced, an immediate decrease and drastic reduction in the producer price, but also a complete overhaul of the system of funding.

Forty-one cedis per kilo, or just under 4 dollars at the current rate: this is the new price at which the regulator Ghanaian will buy cocoa farmers' produce. A drop of nearly 30% in cedis compared to the price announced in October 2025.

The Minister of Finance also announced that, Starting next season, a minimum of 50% of total production must be transformed locally.
