During a televised statement on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, Naila Nouira, Tunisia's Minister of Energy, indicated that the government plans 1.7 GW of new renewable energy projects to be implemented between 2023 and 2025.
The minister announced that the deployment of such a capacity will require investments of around 1.6 billion. In addition, for her, the projects were proposed to investors during the last week of December 2022. Noted that Tunisia is already home to the first floating photovoltaic park in the Middle East and North Africa while another large-scale solar park, with a capacity of 100 MW, is expected to be put into commercial service during the first half of 2024. If the government is undertaking such projects, it is because the country, compared to its neighbours, has fallen far behind in the transition to clean energy. Indeed, only 3.7% of its energy mix is currently made up of renewable energy.
