An official statement announced that the Central African Republic (CAR) will not list its Sango cryptocurrency until next year.

One of the first countries in the world to declare Bitcoin (BTC) as its legal currency is the Central African Republic. But its top judges rejected an attempt to allow crypto investors to buy citizenship via $60,000 in sango. Published by the moderators of the Sango Telegram channel, the statement mentions that they have “postponed the registration of Sango and the release of 5% to the first quarter [the first quarter of] 2023.”

Indeed, at the time of the listing, investors were promised that they would get back 5% of their stake. For their part, the moderators declined to say whether the delay was caused by central bankers or legal obstacles. The government plans to make the country a crypto hub and ministers say they wanted to be “one step ahead” on new technologies.
