In Guinea-Bissau, the government intends to sell an 80% stake in the fixed line PTO Companhia de Telecomunicacoes da Guinea-Bissau (Guine Telecom), and an indirect 80% stake in the Guinetel mobile services branch.

The Minister, Ministry of Transport and Communications of Guinea-Bissau has released details that revealed the government's plans. For example, the country will want to consider privatizing the two companies. In 2013, the government declared that Guine Telecom and its mobile services brand Guinetel were bankrupt. However, they were obtained operating licenses in 2021 in the hope of being relaunched by the country's government.

The Minister of Communications of Guinea-Bissau, Augusto Gomes, granted a single individual license to Guine Telecom while the regulator ARN (Autoridade Nacional das Tecnologias de Informacao e Comunicacao/National Information and Communication Technologies Regulatory Authority) handled it for the Guinetel case.
