On 26 January 2023, Abiola Bawuah was appointed Executive Director and CEO of UBA Africa by the Group's Board of Directors. She thus became the female CEO of the UBA operation in Africa and will be responsible for leading UBA Africa operations.

Abiola was regional CEO for West Africa, overseeing operations in nine subsidiaries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. She was also MD/CEO for UBA Ghana prior to her appointment. Oliver Alawuba, Group CEO of UBA Plc, announced that “Abiola has contributed significantly to the growth of UBA Africa and brings a wealth of experience in commercial banking, stakeholder engagement, people management, and a culture of performance. I have no doubt that it will take UBA Africa to new heights of growth and performance. ”.
