To assist Ghana in the areas of the small-scale fishing industry and food security, the United States government has provided $17.8 million in funding.

As part of the five-year (2021-2026) Feed the Future Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA) project, the country is receiving support from the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Indeed, Feed The Future is a US government initiative against hunger and food security. The five-year project aims to mitigate the near collapse of Ghana's small pelagic fisheries, particularly sardines, mackerel, and anchovies, and to lay the foundations for their ecological recovery.

The government agency that has received support is the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and the Fisheries Commission (Mofad/FC). But Feed the Future party leader, Heather D'Agnes, lamented that despite the immense contributions, fisheries in Ghana have been underestimated in the media with little attention paid to her speech.
