The British company Savannah Energy announced in South Sudan on Monday, December 12, 2022 that talks initiated with the Malaysian oil company Petronas resulted in the signing of an agreement worth 1 $2.5 billion. Savannah will acquire Petronas' entire portfolio of assets in the country in exchange for this amount.

Savannah Energy aims to broaden its operational scope on the African continent by offering itself assets that it considers profitable. These interests cover the Malaysian company's holdings in three oil perimeters in particular and block 5A (67.9%), block 1/2/4 (30%) and block 3/7 (40%), which generate a total of around 153 daily production 200 b/d. This operation remains subject to the approval of Petronas' partners in these areas, including China's CNPC and Sinopec, India's ONGC and South Sudan's state-owned oil company (Nilepet).

Announced for the next quarter of next year, its completion should allow Savannah Energy to strengthen its presence in the African hydrocarbon sector, in accordance with the expansion policy initiated by Soci& Exact in recent months.
