An increase in the public debt balance was recorded in Mauritania in 2021. From 3614 million US dollars in 2018, the balance increases to 4496.5 million US dollars at the end of 2021.

Foreign currency debt, which represents the main component of public debt, reached a total of 3886.5 million US dollars, or 86.4% as of December 31, 2021. Domestic debt, in local currency, amounted to the equivalent of 610 million US dollars, or 13.6% of the public debt envelope at the same period.
