La National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM) reached a record level of sales in 2022, with 13.34 million tons of iron ore shipped to global markets.

The company, whose capital is 78% owned by the Mauritanian State, decided, following an exploit, to grant new bonuses to workers. These have succeeded in surpassing the record figure of 13.27 dating from 2016. Mohamed Ould Mohamed Abdallah, the director of production at SNIM, estimated that the company did not succeed in reaching the production of 13.5 million tons during the year, but achieved an increase in general activity of 5%, compared to 2021.

For him, experts predict a difficult year 2023 for iron ore exporting companies, with the continued fall in prices and the increase in the cost of consumables, due to numerous factors, including the epidemiological situation in China and the war in Ukraine.
