On Thursday, January 19, 2023, an international symposium on the UEMOA financial and regional market took place in Abidjan. This was in connection with the official change of the name of the Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF) to the Financial Markets Authority of the West African Monetary Union (AMF-UMOA).

The name change linked to the functions of the body is part of the reforms undertaken over the past ten years to structural transformation of the UEMOA financial market. Adama Coulibaly, President of the UEMOA Council of Ministers and Ivorian Minister of Economy and Finance, “is justified not only by the confusions noted with other decentralized territorial entities, but is above all the result of the recommendations made by the heads of State and Government (of the union) at their extraordinary session on 10 April 2017.”

According to him, the vision of the new name is to “offer the body and the regional financial market better visibility.” Abidjan is home to the headquarters of the former CREPMF, now the Financial Markets Authority of the West African Monetary Union (AMF-UMOA). The aim was to take a new step in the restructuring and modernization of the financial sector. And the main aim was above all to promote and strengthen the investment dynamics of this financial market in the eight Member States, through savings in order to enable savers to have access to a more complete range of financial products.
