The 8th edition of the Green Finance Conference was launched in Lilongwe, Malawi, earlier today on 9 May 2023. It is a conference organized by the African Guarantee Fund (AGF) in partnership with the Nordic Development Fund (NDF)

The green finance conference attended by key players from Malawi's finance and energy sectors, regulatory policy actors, and green SMEs highlighted the contribution of Malawi's private sector to achieving of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Indeed, the Paris Agreement was adopted by 196 parties at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, France, on December 12, 2015 and put into force on November 4, 2016. This agreement applies a global framework to avoid dangerous climate change and also strengthens and strengthens and supports the capacity of each country to deal with the impacts of climate change.

For the Minister of Energy of Malawi, the hon. Ibrahim Matola, “climate change is a development issue that needs to be addressed holistically. Climate change negatively affects the budget in the sense that the Ministry of Finance must provide budgetary resources to implement mitigation and response mechanisms designed to minimize the negative effects of climate change.”
