The State of Senegal restricted access to the Internet in the hours following protests against the conviction of the opponent Ousmane Sonko. Access to social media such as Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube have been blocked by the state. Mobile data on Senegalese territory is also cut off. This measure will affect the digital economy, which accounts for 6% of GDP in 2022, with projections of around 10% by 2025. Digital players estimate that the government's restriction has created a risk of loss of earnings estimated at 5 billion FCFA per day

According to the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, the measure taken by the country's government was aimed at dealing with the dissemination of hateful and subversive messages, in a context of public disorder, which follows in certain localities of the country.
