Togo recorded a significant fall in net foreign assets with the BCEAO in 2022.

Faced with a deficit of payments and a rising oil bill, Togo's net foreign assets with the BCEAO recorded a worrying decline in 2022. These went from 70.5 billion FCFA in 2020 to a negative balance of 23 billion in 2021, before falling drastically to 410.2 billion in 2022, due to the series of crises that the world has experienced over the past three years and the increased dependence of the Togolese economy on the outside

world.

The deterioration of the country's balance of payments, from a positive amount of 121 billion FCFA in 2021 to a deficit of 19 billion FCFA last year, has largely contributed to this situation. The increase in the oil bill, which increased by 59%, from 162.8 billion CFA francs to 259.2 billion CFA, was a major factor in this unfavourable economic situation
