The city has been mostly peaceful, although the soldiers behind the coup have fired shots to break up the protests.
Bazoum is elected president of Niger on April 2, 2021. He succeeded Mahamadou Issoufou. Niger thus joins Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso (West Africa), Chad (Central Africa) and Sudan at war (East Africa) in military transition.
